‘Balearic’: quite possibly the most contested and overused word this summer, or the most appropriate to describe the Zeitgeist. Whatever. Here we are, well into our third season and second year and what fun it has been so far. For those of you that want a little background, Balearicos is the creative collaboration between music producer and DJ Phil MIson and cultural guardians RED, underpinned by an ethos of anti-hegemonic practice ( its free, its inclusive) and Phil’s complete curatorial freedom (superb Djs, sublime music).
I stand at the back of the tent every week and this is a snap shot of what I’ve seen so far this season: dogs in handbags, dogs not in handbags, dance offs, The Samba, The Conga, break dancing; babies dancing, old people dancing, city boys and cool kids dancing. Juggling. And yes, I have both witnessed and participated in the Balearic shuffle on more than one occasion. It’s impossible not to.
So here we are, with the last two weeks of August seeing Phil joined by world class Djs bringing warmth from both Italy and California, while September sees Phil accompanied on the decks by the best of home grown talent to usher in the Autumn. See you on the dance floor, troupers
