Soviet Hippies EXHIBITION AT THE RED GALLERY 02/09/2016 TO 18/09/2016

  • RED GALLERY 1-3 Rivington Street London, England, EC2A 3DT United Kingdom (map)

Soviet Hippies is an ethnographic research observing the Soviet society from a hippie point of view. The exhibition was designed to show the parallel universe during stagnation; the hippie movement within Brezhnev's regime and repressive measure. It is about the timeless freedom that breaks the rules and crosses boundaries, it is the hidden world that even Estonian people don't know much about.

Expect a rich archive of photos, lots of animations from the Soviet Union and film screenings consisting of interviews with people from the hippie generation of Soviet Estonia. Additionally, there will be lecture presentations with Vladimir Wiedemann and Juliane Fuerst (subjects TBC). KIWA’s special event “Soviet Sound Culture’ will take you through the history of Estonian progressive rock music from the 1970s

Private view by invitation only on Friday 2nd of September
