Screening cutting edge film, documentaries and video art, made either by members of the East London Strippers Collective, or by allies.

The penultimate event before the Art of Stripping draws to a close is a night dedicated to film. Screening some cutting edge film, documentaries and video art, made either by members of the East London Strippers Collective, or by allies who have carefully and respectfully explored their world. A chance to see some insightful and inspiring work, our film night will show you a side to the strip club industry very rarely seen by the public.

Films include:

"Live Nude Girls Unite - 80 min " (US), Julia Query, Vicki Funari,
The main feature of the evening is a full length screening of "Live Nude Girls Unite" a feature length documentary released in 2000, tells the story of the workers at a San Fransisco strip club, the Lusty Lady. It pieces together bits of footage filmed ad hoc throughout the legal battle fought between the dancers and the club owners over the right to unionise. Julia Query, one of the strippers working at Lusty Lady during this period tells the story from her own very personal angle.

The Lusty Lady went on to become the only cooperative strip club in history, owned and operated by the dancers who worked there, and serves as huge inspiration to the members of the East London Strippers Collective.

"East London Strippers Collective -10 min (UK)", Souleyman Messalti
"East London Strippers Collective", is a short documentary video, made by friend and ally of the collective, Souleyman Messalti. It explains the aims and objectives held by the ELSC, what they stand for and what they want to see in their own industry. Footage from the video was taken from one of the ELSC’s legendary parties, as well as interviews with the members themselves.

"Dear Delicious - 3:18 min ", Bronwen Parker-Rhodes

Commissioned by Nowness and directed by ELSC member Bronwen Parker-Rhodes, "Dear Delicious" gives an intimate glimpse into the unique relationship between stripper and punter. Combining the raw beauty of a dancer with the worlds of a genuine love letter written by a customer, this short film sheds sympathetic light onto an area of strippers lives often overlooked.

"Atlanta Dream$", 8:40 min (UK)  Tyrone Lebon

"Atlanta Dream$", by Tyrone Lebon, is a short filmed in the strip clubs of Atlanta, and describes the relationship between young, upcoming artists in the hiphop/RnB scene and the strippers who hold the key to their success by choosing to play their tracks in the clubs where they dance.
