The Czech Centre London, Islington Council, and Red Gallery are pleased to present The Disorient Express London – Prague charity auction. This project involves over 30 brilliant British and Czech artists who each individually transformed a carriage model to compose a unique model train. The auction earnings will be donated to the Islington-based charity Access to Sports, which delivers a range of free sports and educational activities for young people.
The full set of carriages will be on display at the Red Gallery
on 19th September from 10am till 6.30pm - Auction starts at 6.30pm.
Featured artists include some of the most critically acclaimed contemporary artists working in the UK and the Czech Republic, such as:
Tessa Farmer – most famous for her delicate sculptures made from desiccated insect remains dried plant roots and other organic ephemera. Granted awards include the Vivien Leigh Prize, the Royal British Society of Sculptors Bursary Award, etc.
Gavin Turk - works primarily in bronze and wax sculptures, with occasional forays into photography and silkscreen. Recently commissioned to make several public sculptures including the Nail, a 12-meter tall sculpture at One New Change, next to St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.
David Černý - Czech artist notoriously known for his provocative and amusing works such as his controversial sculpture ‘Entropa’ created for the Czech 2009 EU presidency or the "London Booster" sculpture of a double decker bus with mechanical arms for doing push-ups during the 2012 London Olympics.
