AESTHE(TICKS) & CROSSES EXHIBITION AT THE RED GALLERY 04/03/2011 TILL 18/03/2011

  • RED GALLERY 1-3 Rivington Street London, England, EC2A 3DT United Kingdom (map)

This exhibition, 'Aesthe(ticks) & Crosses', features the work of Jez Brann, Gabor Gyory, and Nick Jensen. The exhibition quite consciously places and replaces the art object at the center of a conversation. A mixed set of motivations conspires to pose questions about the relationship between material and illusion, an objects duration and its shifting interpretation over time.

Within the work are references, specific or otherwise, to various belief systems, present or inactive and the types of artistic language which have historically been employed in their representation. All three artists employ a range of differing metaphysical language, though beyond such illusory and abstract references are clues to their artifice and possible insincerity. Nick Jensen's paintings contain allusions to the subtle material conceit which lies within them. Gabor Gyory's work balances art historical references as well as references to events in the recent past, the result creates a disrupted sense of sequence and influence. Jez Brann produces dystopic sculptural propositions, whose often broad and unexpected materiality possess a beguiling visual logic.
